Tell your physician if you have kidney disease, or any history of mental illness.
Use Chantix exactly as it was prescribed. Refrain from using it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Chantix can cause drowsiness or sleepiness, which has the potential to impair your thinking or reactions. You may also have mood or behavior changes when you quit smoking. Until you know how Chantix and the smoking cessation process is going to affect you, be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be cautious and alert. Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any mood or behavior changes, or if you feel agitated, hostile, depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or behavior.
Less serious side effects are more likely, or it's possible that you may experience none at all. Chantix can cause persistent nausea for up to several months. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or is especially bothersome.
If you miss a dose, use the medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, pass over the missed dose and wait until your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
There may be other drugs that can interact with Chantix. Tell your doctor about all other prescriptions and over-the-counter medications that you are currently using. This includes supplements, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other medical professionals. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

HOW TO USE:
How should I take this medicine?
Follow all directions on your prescription label carefully.
The chances of successful smoking cessation can be improved if you set a date to quit smoking. Start taking Chantix approximately one week before your planned quit date.
When you first start taking Chantix, you will take a low dose and then gradually up that dose over the first several days of treatment. Follow your physician's or pharmacist's instructions. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get optimal results from this medication.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water. Take the medicine after eating.
In most cases, Chantix treatment lasts for 12 weeks. Your doctor may recommend a second 12-week course of Chantix to improve the chance that you will quit smoking long-term.
SIDE EFFECTS:
What side effects might I notice from taking this medication?
Nausea, headache, vomiting, difficulty sleeping, strange or unusual dreams, drowsiness, gas, constipation, or changes in your sense of taste may occur. If any of these side effects last for extended period or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
An extreme allergic reaction to this drug is very rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any signs of a serious reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

PRECAUTIONS:
What should I watch for while taking Chantix?
Before taking varenicline, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other known drug allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other issues.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your complete medical history, especially of: kidney disease (especially kidney dialysis), mental and/or mood disorders.
Avoid driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform these types of activities safely. Avoid alcohol.
Kidney function starts to decline as you age. This medication is removed by the kidneys. Therefore, elderly people may be at a greater risk for nausea and other side effects while using Chantix.
This medication should be used only when absoltely necessary during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Inform your doctor about all other medicines you use, especially: insulin, a medication that thins your blood such as warfarin (Coumadin); or theophylline (Respbid, Theoclear, Theo-Dur).

OVERDOSE:
If
overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately.
STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59-86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
